Understanding Barriers to Hepatitis C Treatment: Findings from Interviews with People Who Inject Drugs
In December 2025, IDTA hosted a webinar to share about JSI’s recent partnership with the Massachusetts Department of Public Health Bureau of Infectious Diseases and Laboratory Sciences (DPH BIDLS) to conduct interviews with 75 syringe service program (SSP) participants about their knowledge of and experiences with hepatitis C (HCV).
The purpose of this project was to understand barriers and motivators influencing testing and treatment among people who inject drugs. During this webinar presentation, JSI highlighted key findings from these interviews and discuss future plans to apply these findings to service development and capacity building efforts.
The learning objectives for this webinar are to:
– Discuss background information and methods for conducting interviews with SSP participants
– Share key findings related to HCV knowledge, as well as testing and treatment barriers and facilitators
– Describe potential application of findings to service development and capacity building efforts
